TL;DR — GPA Calculator: A GPA (Grade Point Average) calculator converts letter grades and credit hours into a weighted average on the 4.0 scale. Cal44 supports any number of courses, lets you mix letter grades and numeric grade points, and computes both per-semester and cumulative GPA.

What is the GPA Calculator?

A GPA (Grade Point Average) calculator converts letter grades and credit hours into a weighted average on the 4.0 scale. Cal44 supports any number of courses, lets you mix letter grades and numeric grade points, and computes both per-semester and cumulative GPA.

How to use the GPA Calculator

  1. Add a row for each course with its grade and credit hours.
  2. Use letter grades (A+, A, A−, B+, B, B−, C+, C, C−, D+, D, F) or numeric grade points.
  3. Read the weighted GPA, total credit hours and total grade points.

Formula

GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ Credit Hours

Standard 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D = 1.0, F = 0.0.

Worked example

Three courses: A (4.0) × 3 cr = 12; B+ (3.3) × 4 cr = 13.2; C (2.0) × 3 cr = 6. Total grade points = 31.2; total credits = 10. GPA = 31.2 ÷ 10 = 3.12.

Frequently asked questions

What's a good GPA?

In the US, 3.5+ is generally strong; 3.0+ is solid; under 2.0 is academic probation territory at most universities. Admissions standards vary.

How does weighted GPA differ from unweighted?

Unweighted treats every course on the same 4.0 scale. Weighted gives extra points for honors, AP or IB courses (often 0.5 or 1.0 extra). Cal44 computes unweighted by default.

How do I convert percentages to GPA?

Conventions vary by institution. A common US scale: 93–100% = 4.0; 90–92 = 3.7; 87–89 = 3.3; 83–86 = 3.0, etc. Check your school's grading policy.

Can I include pass/fail courses?

Pass/fail courses typically don't count toward GPA — exclude them. Letter grades like P or F may or may not affect GPA depending on the school.

How do I calculate cumulative GPA across semesters?

Add the total grade points from all semesters and divide by the total credits attempted. Cal44's GPA calculator handles this automatically when you list every course.
