Frequently asked questions

How current are the exchange rates?

Cal44 uses reference rates suitable for everyday estimation. For settlement-grade rates (e.g. wire transfers), check your bank or broker, which apply spreads and fees on top of the mid-market rate.

What's the difference between mid-market and bank rate?

The mid-market rate is the midpoint between buy and sell prices on forex markets. Banks and exchanges quote you the mid-market plus a markup (spread), so retail rates are slightly worse.

Are the rates live?

Reference rates are updated periodically and are suitable for estimation. They are not real-time trading rates.

How can I get the best exchange rate?

Compare specialist services (Wise, Revolut, Western Union) against your bank. Avoid airport currency desks and unlabelled "no commission" booths, which usually have the worst spreads.

Does Cal44 charge any fee?

No. The currency converter is free and runs in your browser.
